Dr. Jennifer Waters appointed Chief Medical Officer

Elite League appoints Chief Medical Officer

The Elite Ice Hockey League is thrilled to announce Dr. Jennifer Louise Waters as the new Chief Medical Officer for the league. Dr. Waters, a highly experienced consultant in emergency medicine and long-standing advocate for athlete health, brings a wealth of expertise and passion to the role.

Dr. Waters' connection with the ice hockey world runs deep. Having served as the team doctor for Coventry Blaze Elite since 2015, and taking on the lead doctor role in 2018, she has demonstrated her commitment to athlete welfare both on and off the ice. In addition, she has been the Women’s GB Ice Hockey Team Doctor since 2022, overseeing medical care at national and international competitions. Her hands-on experience includes everything from on-ice extrication training to safeguarding and medical governance.

“Ice hockey has always been a huge part of my professional life,” said Dr. Waters. “The fast-paced, high-intensity environment resonates with my experience in emergency medicine, and I’m excited to bring my expertise to the broader league to ensure player safety and wellbeing across all teams.”

In addition to her professional work, Dr. Waters’ spends time working with local community groups and charities including including serving as Chair of Trustees for The Weaver’s House Museum and leading initiatives with Coventry’s 42nd Scouts. She’s also a dedicated violinist, performing with the European Doctors Orchestra and the City of Culture Orchestra.

"As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Waters will oversee the league’s medical protocols, player health strategies, and emergency response planning, ensuring the EIHL maintains its reputation for excellence both on and off the rink."
