Sunday Preview: Giants can clinch the title

Eight teams in action and a chance to crown the league champions

Belfast Giants v Manchester Storm

The Giants are set to play in their fourth straight home game this afternoon with a chance to clinch the Elite League title. Their opposition are the Manchester Storm who require nothing less than the full two points themselves as they look to close the gap on the eight-place Dundee Stars who currently occupy the last playoff spot.

The Storm head to the SSE being 5-5 in their last ten and their backs against the wall. A regulation loss tonight followed up by a Stars win would see the last playoff spot be clinched by the Stars. The Giants, they are 6-4 in their last ten but are on a three game winning streak. A multitude of outcomes for both teams tonight in Belfast - it is sure to be spectacle.

Dundee Stars v Cardiff Devils

Another fixture with a potential clinching scenario with the Dundee Stars looking to book their place in the Playoff Quarter-Finals. They will host the Cardiff Devils who are on pretty hot form in the league being 7-3 in their last ten, the Stars being 5-5.

Cardiff have won four out of the last five fixtures between these two sides including twice at the Dundee Ice Arena but have both equal records in their last five games. Will Cardiff confirm the fourth spot in the league or will the Stars complete part one of two needed to clinch the last playoff spot.

Fife Flyers v Sheffield Steelers

A fixture that will be kept an eye on from a number of out-of-town scoreboards as the Flyers host the Steelers. The Steelers must win this fixture to keep their championship hopes alive otherwise it could open the door for the Giants to lift the trophy once again.

The Steelers come in here winning six on the bounce and seven of their last ten with the Flyers losing all ten. However, the last time these two teams faced each other in Kirkcaldy, the Flyers rode out with two points beating the Steelers by a scoreline of 5-3. Could the Flyers do the double and beat the Steelers on home ice or can the Steelers keep the pressure on the league leading Giants?

Coventry Blaze v Glasgow Clan

The final fixture to round out the day and the week sees the Blaze hosting the Clan at the SkyDome Arena. The Blaze look to extend their lead over the Flames in fifth place from one point to three points with a win over the Clan whilst the Clan could tonight guarantee seventh spot with a win away from home.

The Clan come into this losing four straight and looking to end the streak with the Blaze having won their last two and are looking to continue their streak. The Blaze have also won four out of the last five meetings between these two. Who can ride out winners in the last game of the weekend?
