Top 7: Forwards of the EIHL

This week's Twitter task might have been simple at the outset but probably had fans really thinking if they could name just one player:

Here are some of the most popular suggestions:

Ryan Dingle
In two seasons with Fife, American Dingle racked up 180 points in 172 games for the Flyers. He was named an alternate captain in his first season before being given the honour of captaining the Kirkcaldy side a year later, and finished as the team's second-highest points scorer in both seasons.

David Alexandre Beauregard
The man known as 'DAB' initially joined Manchester Phoenix for his debut season in the EIHL back in 2008. After a 79-point league season and playing in Italy the following year, he returned to the Elite League in 2010 and went on to become a cult player for Nottingham. In 217 games for the Panthers, Beauregard scored 265 points including 145 goals.

Adam Calder & Dan Carlson
They were a pairing that were the core of Coventry's offense over so many seasons, and it's only appropriate to honour both players together. Calder and Carlson made their Blaze debuts in 2004/05 and each picked up four Elite League titles among other accolades. Carlson went on to play in 376 EIHL games across all competitions and returned 502 points over his six seasons at the Skydome; while Calder played 339 EIHL games and notched 466 points in five and a half seasons.

Calder sadly passed away in 2018 but is still fondly remembered both by the Blaze and fans across the league.

Jeff Legue
A nine-season Sheffield veteran, Legue won four league titles with the Steelers as well as three playoff crowns. In addition to EIHL competitions, Legue also featured for the Steelers in two Continental Cup campaigns and a Champions Hockey League season over his spell in Yorkshire from 2007-2016.  He ended his time in orange having played 537 games and scoring 596 points.

Colin Shields
Bowing out of ice hockey by winning the league title, Challenge Cup, leading his team to a Playoff final, and helping to keep Great Britain at the top level of world ice hockey, 'Sheds' had a final season to remember. Prior to that however his 11 other seasons in the Elite League saw him lift three league titles in Belfast and also pick up numerous playoff, conference and cup titles.

Matt Keith
Arriving in Glasgow with a handful of NHL games under his belt, Keith came to the Clan after seasons in the DEL and EBEL. He was immediately named captain in Braehead, and went on lead them for three seasons playing in 185 games with 349 points to his name. Clan won the Gardiner Conference in each of Keith's three years at the team.

Joey Martin
The only player on our Top 7 list still playing in the Elite League, Martin recently signed a contract extension to keep him in Cardiff for a seventh straight season. The Devils' all-time leading point scoter in the EIHL has on two league titles, two playoff championships, and two Challenge Cups in the past six seasons, and had four 60-point campaigns.
